By continuously maintaining his position that Manny Pacquiao, the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter today is taking illegal drugs, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is just trying to drag farther the negotiations for their fight not to succeed until everyone gets fed up, gives up and everything fades away. But history won’t as this is only Mayweather’s way out of this fight. Since his comeback, he already showed that he fears fighting or even meeting Pacquiao face-to-face. In insisting his own rules for him to agree, Mayweather has been acting as if he is a boxing commission. And he is on this same page with his father and trainer uncle, Roger Mayweather who himself is a former world boxing champion.

Like his son, Floyd, Sr. joined the fray of eluding a fight with Pacquiao for the same reasons. While training Hatton for his date with Pacquiao, Floyd, Sr. boasted that he can change Hatton’s boxing style to suit Pacquiao’s that he promised Hatton will knock him out. Thereafter, he self-proclaimed himself as the world’s “greatest trainer”.  However, after Hatton was flattened cold inside two rounds, Pacquiao changed that title to being the world’s “greatest fraud” in just a blink of an eye.

Without boxing or other sports’ big names the likes of Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield, Sugar Ray Leonard, NBA’s  Lebron James or an influential political figure or some high ranking US government officials prodding him to agree to fight Pacquiao regardless of conditions, this super fight which could turn out to be the biggest and most widely awaited fight in history might not take place at all. One reason, however, this writer sees why Mayweather enjoys of not being pressured that he keeps stalling the negotiations every time is because he is being shielded or backed by some people in the US news media.

As if his idea is on the right track and justified in his demands, an American radio comedian even had the guts to call Pacquiao “idiot” simply for refusing to abide by the rules laid out by an ugly American. What a stupid, despicable and shameful treatment of a good-mannered, soft-spoken, humble and God-fearing man by another ugly American! That guy ought to apologize.

Another. When Ms. Rita Van Susteren of Fox News had Floyd Mayweather, Jr. as a guest in her program On the Record before his fight with Sugar Shane Mosley, she was all praise of him throughout the interview that none of his past or future fights was ever touched. As if there was a pre-condition that existed between them, she made sure of not mentioning the name “Pacquiao” to him or even asked why he is ducking Pacquiao since it is the hottest proposed match-up at the time and most talked about in boxing. Or even push and goad him to fight Pacquiao for boxing’s sake, however, she stood by her pledge not to. But what caused me to squirm in disbelief most was when she asked him this question: “Why are you so good?” Perhaps, Rita just came short of asking him a more correct and complete question like this: “Why are you so good ‘as a fighter’?” So goooddddddd!!?? On that, Rita just showed that she is a “one dimensional” boxing fan – she watches only Mayweather’s fights.

With many Philippine televisions now showing live and replays of past and present big fights, only those of Pacquiao’s are the most sought and watched. Mayweather’s does not rank high in the list as Filipinos are easily bored and not appreciative of his boxing style that replays of his fights are not worth watching a second or third time. Mayweather is a dull, lousy and an unexciting fighter so very much unlike Pacquiao. All he does is duck, waive, clinch or run most of the time no matter how good or dull his opponent is. His good points are that he usually finishes strong and in command most of the way. Overall, he’s still a bore. If pitted against Pacquiao, well, this is what the world and this writer wants to see and it all depends if this coward American ever agrees.

From the time he came back, Mayweather never showed respect for Pacquiao. He belittles him that as he all puts it, fighting and beating him would not mean much to him or to the fans as Pacquiao is already used to losing having lost two by knockouts and one by decision. He went on to boast that he needs not fight Pacquiao if only to earn millions as he is already well off and that he owns the biggest mansion in Las Vegas. Fans may ask, what are those mansion and Pacquiao’s record got to do with the proposed fight? All what the world wants is he agrees to fight Pacquiao and not those nonsense issues. By talking phony, acting childish and showing arrogance by refusing to talk to Filipino scribes, Mayweather shows that he feels uneasily or perhaps even trembles by just a mere mention of the name “Pacquiao”.

From all those acting and bragging by Mayweather so far, there’s no doubt that he is trying to emulate ‘The Greatest’ Muhammad Ali. What Mayweather just doesn’t know is that he is not even a shade of Ali in every way. He fights dull and talks dull. Ali exhibited the best boxing skill and brains in boxing and also used to brag but act reasonably during his time and backed them all with deeds every time. Mayweather has yet to prove his worth by fighting Pacquiao or else, he alone will have to eat his own words and lick his own saliva.

To be concluded…
